... Federation University Chancellor Robert H.T. Smith...robert smith... University Chancellor Robert H.T. Smith... Photograph Federation University Chancellor Robert H.T. Smith A CD ...Federation University Australia was established on 1 January 2014. Formerly known as the University of Ballarat, its enabling legislation was the University of Ballarat Amendment (Federation University Australia) Act 2013. Although formally created as a University in 1994, the University of Ballarat has a lineage back to 1870 with the establishment of the School of Mines Ballarat, making it the third institution of higher learning to be established in Australia and the first to be established in regional Australia. On 1 January 1994, Ballarat University College became the University of Ballarat and in 1998 the University merged with three TAFE Institutes to become a dual sector institution with multiple campuses. On 1 January 2014, the University of Ballarat amalgamated with the Monash University Gippsland Campus to form Federation University Australia. The Gippsland Campus also had a long lineage dating back to 1928 with the establishment of the Yallourn Technical School which became a predecessor institution to the Gippsland College of Advanced Education formed in 1968. In 1990, it was renamed the Monash University College and in 1993 became the Gippsland Campus of Monash University. In 2016, Federation University Australia announced plans to take possession, over a two-year period, of Monash’s Berwick Campus in the south-east corridor of Melbourne. Federation University Australia, or FedUni, is headquartered in Ballarat and offers programs in Higher Education and Vocational Education and Training to regional Victoria and beyond. The University’s commitment to educational and social equity, teaching excellence, research distinction, environmental sustainability and regional capacity building has enabled it to develop in a way that draws on its proud heritage to inform its future. Its regional character sets a framework for the University’s priorities but does not constrain it from serving wider community interests, nationally and internationally. The name Federation University Australia was chosen to convey the scope and capacity of an expanded regional university with a federated network of campuses.A CD-ROM of a number of images relating to Federation University Chancellor Robert H.T. Performances took place in the Kew Recreation... & Robert Paul Smith Programme issued by The Kew Repertory Players ...From the early 1950s, the Kew Repertory Players performed more substantial, if less spectacular fare in the Recreation Hall, and later in the new Kew City Hall, after the former’s demolition in 1960. Their repertoire ranged from plays by Noel Coward to J.B. Priestley. Many of their programmes, the earliest from 1953, and the last from 1965, form part of our collection.Arthur Henry Dear was an employee of the City of Kew, acting as Hall Keeper of the Kew Recreation Hall in Wellington Street, and later the new Kew City Hall in Cotham Road. The Arthur Dear Collection contains memorabilia - tickets, programmes, invitations - as well as his identification badge. Items in the collection dates from the 1940s to the 1970s. The Kew Recreation Hall (Wellington Street) and later the Kew City Hall (Cotham Road) were major locations in suburban Melbourne in the postwar period for civic and private events including theatre productions and exhibitions. The Arthur Dear Collection (in conjunction with the scrapbooks compiled by Marion Tilley) provide a comprehensive snapshot of performing arts in Kew during the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. The collection includes valuable data about performances, performers, directors etc., during this period. Programme issued by The Kew Repertory Players for a performance of The Tender Trap, an American comedy by Max Shulman & Robert Paul Smith. Performances took place in the Kew Recreation Hall in April 1960. The 8-page programme includes a cast list, some profiles, a synopsis and advertisements for local businesses.arthur dear collection, the tender trap, max shulman, robert paul smith, kew repertory players, performing arts -- kew -- victoria, kew recreation hall -- wellington street, theatre memorabilia -

... robert smith... of Inverness in Scotland. Robert Smith, who purchased the property... the Lochaber Hills of Inverness in Scotland. Robert Smith, who ...This colour photograph, along with 11 others, was taken inside the residence and outbuildings of the Lochaber property at Harvest Home Road, Epping. Lochaber, for many years the home of the Smith family, takes its name from the Lochaber Hills of Inverness in Scotland. Robert Smith, who purchased the property on 10th March, 1884, was born at Annat by the Lochaber Hills. The Smith family first arrived in Australia in 1854 aboard the Oliver Lang. Thomas Smith, Robert’s father, bought Rosehill at Mernda in 1869. After moving from Rosehill to Lochaber, Robert cut and sold red gum firewood to pay for the farm. Later he commenced dairying and cropping hay being carted and sold at the Haymarket on the corner of Flemington Road and Royal Parade, Carlton. Maize and mangles were also grown. Cows were hand milked in the bluestone shed which held twenty cows at a time - ten along each side. One of Robert’s two sons, Roy, served with the AIF during World War I and was awarded the Military Cross at Passchardale. In 1919 he married Grace Bower and bought fifty acres opposite Lochaber which he named Karagala after the ship which brought him after the war. On his father’s death in 1933 Roy, Grace and their family moved back to Lochaber. The property was finally sold in 1942 when Roy volunteered for civilian war service, later serving in New Guinea. From 1930 to 1943 Roy had also served as a Councillor for the Shire of Whittlesea and was President from 1935-1939. Although nothing is known of the property before the Smith family purchased it in 1884 the house and barn design and construction appear to be earlier and suggest a German influence.
